Functioning
The feed slurry is initially conveyed to an auxiliary tank attached to the Hydrosilt® Clarifier, where air is removed and the necessary flocculant is added to accelerate the sedimentation effect. The slurry/flocculant mixture passes to the lower zone of the clarifier tank through a fluid bed created at the bottom by the settled solids. This forces the contact of the solid particles with the flocculant retained in the bed, thus enhancing the effect of the reagent. The clarified water rises through the fluidized bed to the surface, being evacuated through a peripheral overflow channel. The solid-liquid “interface” formed by the fluid bed and the clarified water is automatically controlled by different sensors. A rotating scraper system at the bottom of the clarifier tank pushes the settled sludge towards the central discharge cone from where it is pumped out. The frequency and concentration of sludge discharge from the clarifier tank is continuously controlled by a load detector acting on the sludge pumping system.
Efficient clarification and thickening
Hydrosilt® Clarifiers / Thickeners are highly effective in the solid-liquid separation processes normally carried out in the Mining, Aggregates, Chemical and Environmental industries, among others. The optimum results achieved with the high performance Hydrosilt® Clarifiers, achieving speeds between three and twenty times higher than those obtained in conventional tanks, provide the user with great advantages, which translate into less settling surface or size of the clarifier tank, better clarification conditions and solids concentration in the discharge, efficient and automatic control of the process and lower investment cost. AMP engineers are involved in carrying out sedimentation tests with the sample of materials provided to them, in order to determine the appropriate equipment and specify the suitable type of flocculant, according to the results achieved in the tests.
Sludge filtration
When it is necessary to filter the thickened sludge in the Hydrosilt® Clarifier Tank due to solid handling requirements, or in compliance with environmental standards, filter presses can be used to ensure a perfect separation of solids with wastewater recovery. In this case, AMP can supply the appropriate filter press on the basis of the required filtration tests, according to its manufacturing program.
